Debra Hixon is currently one of two Countywide School Board Members for the Broward County Public Schools, first elected in November of 2020. Debbi’s career in education began in 1989 as a science teacher and swim coach at Blanche Ely High School. In 1994, she transferred to South Broward High School, where she continued to teach and serve as the swim & water polo coach for many years. Before being elected as Countywide School Board Member, Debbi served as South Broward’s Maritime/Marine Science & Technology Magnet Coordinator. As a Countywide School Board Member, she currently serves on a variety of community and business organizational committees.
As a graduate and a parent of two graduates of Broward County Public Schools, Debbi is passionate about Broward County’s schools, students, teachers, and staff. She is dedicated to ensuring that resources and supports are available within our district to provide the educational excellence that will allow every student to not only advance but also enhance their skills so that every student is prepared for their chosen path after they leave our school system.
